A group opposed to Jeju's second airport has called for the nullification of the plan, saying "Yoon Seok-yul, the insurrectionist who destroyed democracy and constitutional order, should step down."
"The imposition of emergency martial law, the invasion of the National Assembly by airborne troops, and the attempted arrest of the Speaker of the National Assembly and others are serious criminal and treasonous acts that destroyed democracy itself and disrupted the constitutional order," the Jeju Islanders Against Airport 2 said in a statement on Thursday.
"We do not recognize Yoon Seok-yeol as the president of South Korea because he has destroyed democracy and the constitution. The insurrectionist Yoon must step down immediately and be held accountable according to the law. The judicial authorities should also immediately arrest and detain Yoon Seok-yeol and clearly hold him accountable for his attempt to destroy democracy."
The Minjoo Assembly added, "The second airport issue is no different. Yoon Seok-yeol's government's unilateral push by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport is in line with the extreme situation. The plan for the second airport, which was promoted by the insurgents, was ultimately invalidated." "The project was promoted despite various defects and problems, and the hasty project promotion was caused by the insurgents' mismanagement of state affairs," they said, referring to the invalidation of the second airport.
"The second airport plan promoted by the insurgents is a project with obvious flaws and problems. The plan for the second airport is null and void and must be stopped immediately. MOLIT should immediately suspend all procedures related to the second airport. We will not stand idly by if MOLIT shows its sympathy for the insurgents."
