For a Jeju that is beautiful just as it is, we ask for your interest and support.
The winter the outcry that began in a village at Jeju's eastern tip spread across the whole island, black-faced spoonbills came to the Ojo-ri migratory-bird wetland. This year, without fail, they set out once again on their 12th winter here.
Even as reed beds were cleared for resorts and waterways split for new roads, the stubborn bonds of life could not easily be broken, and every year they returned to the island. But once an airport arrives — its dark fuselages covering the sky, its thunderous roar settling over the land — even the most tenacious life will have no choice but to be driven out.
And so we speak with the hearts of all living things, and of the people who live there.
Hoping that what makes Jeju Jeju will not disappear, and that no one will again be driven from their own land, writers from across the country have written prayers for life.
“Green, Just As It Is” (그대로, 초록), a collection created by 60 Korean writers toward resolving the Jeju Second Airport problem, has been published. It brings together the writers' poetry and prose with photographs of the people and nature of the planned airport site.
It is a limited edition, and all proceeds go to the work of the Jeju Peoples' Emergency Council to Block the Second Airport. For the scrapping of the Second Airport and a sustainable Jeju society, we ask for your purchase and support.
